For months now various crew members have reached out, asking me to host a Black TV Film Crew event. I felt the pressure to “just do something,” but I wanted to create an event that embodied the spirit of Black TV Film Crew. So in July I came up with the idea for our monthly Movement and Motivation walks / hikes.
Crew Meet Ups On The Mountain
Once a month, our Black TV Film Crew family meets and walks up the mountain at the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook in Los Angeles. The reason we’re hiking a mountain is because we each face symbolic mountains in our careers. If it’s not getting more work, it’s how to get paid, its how to be seen, etc. There is always something that creatives, crew members and entrepreneurs alike face in the entertainment business. So, I decided to create an event that allows us to climb the mountain and claim the victory. Every time we hike that’s exactly what we’re doing.
I call our hikes Movement and Motivation because we’re moving and because we have joined together. I believe our collective spirits should motivate each other. Our intention is to motivate each other. We started in August and we just had our second walk / hike in September. We’ve met new people each and every time.
As a result of our first hike, I found a line producer to work on a web series project who has extensive experience shooting music videos, commercial videos and other productions. As a result of our second hike, I found screenwriting accountability partners and a dedicated contributor for the Black TV Film Crew website.
There is such value in every hike, I encourage you to check your calendar and connect with us at one of our upcoming hikes.
